2.  Take a delicate brown pencil and draw a line around your eye.  That would make the eye shadow stand out.

3.  This step requires a little skill.  Take the dark, brownish-purplish eye shadow and shape the eye with it, as shown below.  Use little eye shadow at the beginning and build up on it until you achieve desired shape.

6 Makeup Mistakes You Need to Avoid

6 Makeup Mistakes You Need to Avoid

By Mel Joelle

You can look absolutely beautiful by drawing attention to your best features and enhancing your natural beauty. Makeup is designed to enhance the beauty of a woman, yet all too often I’ve seen makeup that showed up too many of a woman’s problem areas in her face.

Here are six common makeup mistakes and how to avoid them.

1. Wearing a black lip liner and light lipstick
Recently I saw a young woman wearing a powder pink lipstick and a black (you heard me right – black) lipliner and I almost past out. I could not help but stare and thinking to myself, where did she come from?  Drawing that type of attention to yourself should not be your goal when coming to wearing a lipliner. Your lip liner should be a shade that is close to your natural lip color, and to accentuate the natural shape of your mouth. African American women with dark lips can line their lips with a dark liner like our Cabernet to compliment their dark skin. They can then top it off with either a gloss or lipstick and look their absolute best. But please – don’t line your lips with black. Stay current with shades that compliment not detract.

2. Going outside your natural lip line
When lining your lips, stay in your lane. Going beyond your natural lip line gives your lips a turned down look and thus, make you look older. Don’t defeat the purpose of using a lip liner. Use the shape of your mouth as your guide, and line slightly above your natural lip line with short quick strokes, which will give you a perfect line. Then apply your lipstick and top it off with some gloss for a beautiful finish.

3. Heavily drawn eyebrows
If you have thick eyebrows, using an eyebrow pencil is not necessary. Have your brows professionally groomed, and apply our Clear Brow Wax to tame your brows and to give it a sleek manicured look. If your brows are sparse due to over waxing or plucking, using our Angle Brow Brush, dip into the Brush-A-Brow powder color of your choice and brush into the natural line of your brow.

For very thin eyebrows, follow your natural shaping with short, feathery strokes using our eye pencil in Chestnut or our Automatic pencil in Sage. Then apply your Brow-A-Brow powder to seal your pencil which will make it last all day.

4. Eye Line too long on eyelid.
Applying your eyeliner past your eyelid looks great, but not if you go overboard.
Start at least a quarter of an inch past the outer corner of the eye with an upward slant, and work inward along the root of your lashes. I find that when this method is shown to our clientele, they tend to get it right every time. Use our Eye Perfect Automatic Liner because it glides on smoothly without pulling or stretching the skin, or our highly pigmented, waterproof Indellible Gel Liner with our Detail Mini Chisel Brush for the perfect eyeliner application. Using either one requires very little skill.

Wearing Clumpy Mascara
All too often, I see clumpy mascara that make lashes look like glue was apply to them. To avoid your mascara from clumping, first throw out your mascara if it is old to avoid infection. Apply using our Super Lash Mascara — get rid of the excess by wiping the wand against the opening of the tube. Then apply from the base of your lashes to the tip by wiggling the wand from side to side. Apply a second coat to make your lashes look more full. Then comb through your lashes using our Brow/Lash Groomer to separate. Do not pump as doing so will pump air into your mascara and dry it out before you get a chance to fully enjoy its benefit.

Apply blush without blending
Wearing blush should not make you look like you were punched on the cheek. Many women shy away from wearing blush because they have ve seen others wearing too much of the wrong shade, or because they themselves do not know how to apply. Having the right tools will allow you to distribute your blush color effortlessly.

Using a brush like our Angle Blush Brush, dip into the blush color of your choice. Shake off the excess, smile and apply beginning on the apples of your cheeks in short, upward strokes toward your hairline and outer ear. Gently blend into your skin for a natural finish. If you are heavy handed and applied too much color, tone it down by dusting some our micro fine loose translucent powder in Neutral.

Finding your best blush color is not always easy. Dark skinned women looks great in berries but if you are fair skinned, be careful with bright colors. If you are able to visit us, we will find you a color that will enhance the beauty of your cheekbones. If  you’re not able to, then stick with a blushes that offer  pinky/rusty hues with soft shimmers like our Jacarmar or Manakin blush. If  you are fair skinned, our ever popular Trogan blush will give you the bronze look you are  looking for.
